Personal History

Tolisa Darius was born into a large family in Marhaven’s sea kin community. Her father, Rokar Darius, is a druid. Members of the Darius clan tend to be druids, with a scattering of clerics and natural healers (herbalists and apothecaries). Some find employment as sailors or fishermen. Tolisa became fascinated with arcane spellcasting at an early age and as she grew up she realized that she had no desire to go into the “family business.” Rokar Darius was (and still is) disdainful of arcane spellcasters and what he sees as their complete disregard for the natural order. Assuming that he would forbid any child of his to become a wizard, Tolisa decided to become an alchemist instead. She had an aptitude for the art, and had already learned a great deal by the time she met a wu jen who had stopped over in Marhaven on his way back to the Jade Isles.

The wu jen, Josuro Takagi, was returning home to semi-retirement and was looking for an apprentice. Something about the young Tolisa caught his eye, and he agreed to take her on even though she was a little old to start training. As the wu jen’s powers are attuned to the forces of nature, Tolisa felt confident that her father would approve. Rokar gave his daughter his blessing and she left Marhaven with Takagi several years ago.

In addition to her arcane training, Tolisa continued her study of alchemy. She has mastered the creation of most of the common items adventurers want (such as sunrods and tanglefoot bags), and she has a continuing interest in using mundane elements to duplicate the effects of magical spells.
