Hi.  My name is Michael Raugh.  I’m a computer geek, a professional hypnotist, and, as my wife Julie likes to say, a wood nerd.

I’ve started and stopped a couple of times.  As a kid, my father taught me some basic woodworking through 4-H, but at 10 years old I lacked the patience for hand sanding, careful sawing, and proper joinery so it didn’t last long.  As an adult in the early 1990’s I took on a basement finishing project, and it was during that year or so that the woodworking bug bit me in earnest.  I spent about 10 years at it, moving from a small basement shop to a modest garage, then because of some personal issues and ended up taking an unplanned 12-year hiatus.  I got my shop back and started using it again in 2013, when I started this blog.

What you’ve discovered here is a place I’ve set up to keep notes on the things I do in and with my home wood shop.  I mostly blog about projects in progress, tools I just bought (or am lusting after), and general adventures in woodworking as I experience them.  The main goal is for my own enjoyment and to share the projects with friends and family, but anyone else who stumbles on this and finds it useful is welcome.

I have a variety of handheld and stationary power tools, many of which were purchased pre-2002, but I frequently look for opportunities to upgrade my shop furniture and equipment.  I don’t think of myself as a tool snob, but I did learn way back when that it’s worth paying for a quality tool up front rather than getting some  Ryobi piece of crap that will only make me wish I’d bought something better instead.  (Though to be fair, I haven’t bought a Ryobi tool in 20 years; maybe they’ve improved.)
